Big weekend last weekend - We arose very early (6:00!) to deliver my son in time to take the ACT out in Woodland Hills. It’s always like a voyage to go to the valley and beyond from Beverly Hills. I don’t have the tolerance for the traffic that I used to have, and I don’t have reasons to go there that often. Husband and I took the downtime to get together with my dear friend whom I haven’t seen in about a year. As neighbors, I saw her multiple times a day, one in particular when I watched her give her fiancé the middle finger from her muscle car as she drove down the street while he smiled and waved. It was one of the funniest you had to be there LA things I’ve ever seen and I miss living next-door to her so much. She’s been my glamorous stories with celebs buddy, my downtown shopping and lunch buddy, my cocktail buddy, my mom friend who always knew a cool trick to make life easier. We have a really wonderful history.
I’m finding this is a season in my life of reminiscence. As much as I am excited for all that comes for our one one bird leaving the nest, I also notice how you can’t get back the time. As I go through our shelves to rid us of holding onto things we no longer need, I have a twinge of sadness at tossing the unused glitter and glue sticks, yet I’m lighter in not keeping them.
We don’t need those anymore.
Every day I’m acutely aware of how life is moving on and while it was so great to see my friend, it did kind of give me a little bit of a morning for the old days when it was just so much easier to get together and do fun things. It was a great visit; we managed to have a really great breakfast. We enjoyed the farmers market in Calabasas; I got gorgeous flowers, fruit, and a lead on a contractor for our kitchen remodel.
Apparently the ACT went well. My kid is a champ. I’m almost embarassed at how relieved I am that’s he’s finished. You’d think I was the one who took the test - so exhausted that I dozed all day Sunday only to fully awaken for the Super bowl half time. I thought Kendrick Lamar was great - the production quality was super cool. I am loving this time of spilling the tea.
